Introduction to Food for the Hungry

News from Mwumba

I have just come across an online video which helped me to get a better understanding of the approach of Food for the Hungry. I hope you find it helpful too - click here to view.

I hope, like me, you enjoy exploring the web and reading articles that you want to pass on to others.  Matthew Parris writes about his experience in Africa which, he says,  “stubbornly refuses to fit my world view, and has embarrassed my growing belief that there is no God.” I hope you find the article as thought provoking as I did.

58: Alliance
Food for the Hungry has joined the 58: Alliance, a movement to help the more than 1.4 billion people still living in extreme poverty worldwide. Founded by Dr. Scott Todd, the 58: Alliance brings together experts in agriculture, water, micro-enterprise and other areas to help serve the poor.  58 refers to the call in Isaiah 58:
“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?    Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter .....”
Tony Neeves, who lives in Wadhurst, is one of the directors of the film 58.  We are hoping that the film will be screened in Wadhurst soon.

Violette, together with other staff from FH Burundi, recently met with the parents and guardians of the 128 vulnerable children who go to Mwumba Primary School.  “Getting alongside the families” to help them understand the crucial role they play in enabling their children is a key part of the approach of FH.  The programme to train ‘lead-mothers’ who will then train other mothers to improve the health and nutrition has already begun. We hope to bring you news of how the children are progressing over the next few months.
